This guide will explain what is needed in order to remove the VR6 intake manifold.

Step 1.
Remove the Air Intake Tube. Disconnect anything attached to the intake tube. Use the VW Tool to remove the spark plug wires from the spark plugs.

Step 2.
Remove the Throttle Body. This might not be 100% needed, but it makes it easier to get everything out. There are four 12mm nuts holding it on. Also the TPS connector, and coolant hoses. Simply disconnect these also.

Step 3.
Detaching the Manifold. Unplug or disconnect any vacuum lines attached to the manifold. Also remove the support brackets on the backside of the manifold.

Step 4.
Remove the upper manifold. It is held on by nine 6mm allen head bolts. They are all reachable from the top front, without removing the core support. Some are harder to get to, but they are all reachable.

NOTE: You can re-use your gasket if you are careful not to damage it during the removal process. This is also a good time to port match / gasket match your intake manifold. For polishing, you may not want to or need to remove the lower section of the manifold since you really can't see it. For and type of porting, you probably want to remove it as well. You will see how it is mounted after the upper section is off. Simply remove the bolts and your done!
